NPP Will Witness Another Greater Shocking Death If . . . - Rev Owusu Bempah

Rev. Owusu Bempah, Founder and Leader of Glorious Word and Power Ministries

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministries, Rev Owusu Bempah has attributed the death of Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, former National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to one of the many prophecies God revealed to him at last year's December 31 all-night church service.

According to him, the death of the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, the fatal accidents on our roads, the death of the Bantamahene and many deaths in the country are part of the prophecies God revealed to him.

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jacob Otanka "Jake" Obetsebi-Lamptey passed away early Sunday.

On the 16th of December last year news went viral on Social media that Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey was dead but he confirmed that he was in South Africa receiving treatment.

The rumour mill had it that the former Tourism Minister died in South Africa while seeking medical attention.

But a hale and hearty Obetsebi Lamptey wondered why “people go out of their way to manufacture idiotic stories when there are so many serious stories that concern our country that are going on that people should be concerned with…it shows futility of what goes on on social media unfortunately.”

But upon confirmation by Bryan Acheampong last Sunday of his death, Rev. Owusu Bempah on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show hinted that the death of Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey is one of the prophecies God revealed to him.

Rev. Owusu Bempah is again warning the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that there will be another death which will involve a pillar of the party if the members are not prayerful and sit unconcerned.

“I am not a prophet of doom but if the NPP sit down and don’t pray harder, they will witness another death which is far greater than the death of Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. This is what God revealed to me last year December 31, 2015 and if they like they should not pray and watch out,” he admonished.

He however begged not to be seen as an NPP Prophet but a prophet of God as he is prepared to speak the mind of God and not per his own conviction to please anybody in the country.

Bawumia: Restoration of Teacher-Trainee Allowances Is Non-Negotiable

Dr Bawumia at the Dambai College of Education

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-Presidential Candidate of Nana Akufo-Addo, says the NPP sees the need to restore allowances to trainee teachers and nurses as non-negotiable, explaining that Teacher Education, in particular, is critical to developing the quality human resource Ghana needs to succeed in the competitive global community.

“We will restore the teacher and nursing training allowances – for us, it is non-negotiable. Every nation must prioritize certain sectors at every point in time and invest the necessary resources to reap maximum benefits and, for the NPP, Ghana today needs to invest every necessary resource in education to give us the quality human resource we need to win the globally competitive economic battle,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia made these comments at the Dambai College of Education (DACE), on Monday, after listening to the complaints of students and lecturers of the College on conditions of Teacher Trainees and Colleges of Education across the country.

Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Lambert Ahiadzu Sefadzi, Head of the Social Sciences Department at the College, decried the current conditions of Colleges of Education, stating that the current government has no policy framework toward Teacher Education.

“There a lot of problems facing colleges of education but only one has gained prominence: the issue of the withdrawal of the Teacher Trainee Allowances. However, there are other problems, including inability of government to implement fully the Colleges of Education Bill, poor infrastructure among others.

The Colleges of Education Bill which was passed in 2012 making the colleges tertiary institutions is not fully implemented. When it suits government, they cite parts of the Bill, for example the withdrawal of Teacher Trainee Allowances.

It would interest you to know that since 2012, tutors in Colleges of Education have been doing the work of tertiary teachers but are paid like teachers of basic and secondary cycle schools, though they have all the qualification required by the National Council of Tertiary Education.

Migration of teachers of Colleges of Education to the NCTE payroll has also not been done. Government continues to drag its feet saying there is no money while teachers continue to do everything and produce Diploma certificated teachers, without any commensurate compensation.

They have reduced entry requirements to attract a lot of people to Colleges of Education. In the past, individuals were required to have at least C6 in all core subjects to gain entry to the Colleges of Education but because the cost of training has gone up and individuals are financing their education, they have reduced the entry requirement to D7 to attract a lot of students and this is what they are using to boast that enrolment has increased in Colleges of Education.”

Asaanah Peter Anagbila, a student of the College, stated that as a result of the scrapping of the allowances, though it has been three (3) weeks since the school reopened for classes, many of their colleagues have not been able to return because they have not been able to find money to pay for their fees and for their upkeep.

“I am happy to know that Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia have indicated their resolve to restore the Teacher Trainee Allowances. This is what gives us hope and we are grateful. With the restoration of Teacher Trainee Allowances, Teacher Education will be once again attractive in Ghana,” he added.

When he took his turn, Dr. Bawumia explained that the NDC government had decided to take the path of taxing every conceivable item and abolishing all kinds of expenditure because it had mismanaged the unprecedented resources that had come into the country within the last 7 years.

“In the government’s desperation and recourse to a fixation on taxation and unfortunate cuts in the hope that it would fill the hole they have sunk the Ghanaian economy into, they have also cancelled the all-important Teacher Trainee Allowances.

It is instructive to note that this policy, like the many other desperate schemes, was introduced around 2013 and 2014 after the Government had recklessly borrowed and overspent in the 2012 Election year leading to double digit fiscal deficits in 2012 and 2013.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen, when you are desperate and when you find yourself in a hole, any idea will sound great to you because you have very limited options. It is therefore not surprising the number of desperate schemes and policies this government keeps innovating in attempt to climb back up from the hole,” he stated.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia noted that the decision to scrap the allowances was worrying as it betrays a lack of appreciation of the need to prioritise education and especially the training of key professionals such as teachers and nurses.

“As the government continues to claim that the policy to scrap the allowances is the best thing to have happened to Teacher Trainees and Training Colleges, the supposed biggest beneficiaries of the policy, trainees, continue to cry out and face unbearable hardships to keep themselves in school after the cancellation of the allowances”, he lamented.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated the NPP’s promise to restore the allowances to ensure that Ghana develops the necessary human resource for development.

Comedians Give Much But Get Very Little In Return - Lydia Forson

Outspoken Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has joined entertainment industry stakeholders and Ghanaians who are paying touching tributes to late Ghanaian comedian, Bishop Bob Okala.

Okala, 59, was born Samuel Kwadwo Buabeng and died on Sunday dawn March 13, 2016 at the Koforidua Government Hospital after a performance in the town.

He indeed died after doing what he loves best, COMEDY. But there are doubts to whether he was even paid for his performance, as reports claimed that he had to “BEG” organisers of the show to make his appearance.

In her Facebook post, Lydia Forson did not just eulogize the comedian but also lamented the sad case of entertainers working for free.

Below is what Lydia Forson said on Facebook:

“Sad day… Comedians and artist give us so much and get very little in return.

They make us laugh, cry and take us through tough periods of our lives with their art.

It’s easy to assume we have it all, after all how will you know we don’t. To bring you the best we often have to suppress our own challenges and discomfort just to entertain and live up to the standards you’ve set for us.

When’s the last time you bought a film, paid for a concert or for a song. It’s almost always a bootleg version or an excuse to get it for free. For those who do, we are ever grateful but for those who don’t, how do you think we survive?

Where do you think the money comes from? How are we constantly trying to bring out the best amidst your criticisms without any money? How?

You say you made us. But with what contribution? How many have invited us to parties and expected us to be there for free, forgetting it’s how you make a living.

How many have requested we MC their events and weddings, as a “friend”? How many times have you berated a celebrity for not giving enough to “charity” , when in some cases they are walking charities themselves.

As I read the news about Bob Okala’s death these are some of the thoughts that ran through my mind

Why do we continue? Because it is a passion that you can’t run away from, a passion that needs to be fed, a passion that needs to continue to give no matter how unappreciated, underrated or disrespected it makes you feel.

Bob Okala, once upon a time made us all laugh and for a lot of us entertainment industry paved a way.

Thanks to people like him , a lot more attention was brought into the industry and we are in some ways enjoying the fruits of his labour and that of others before us.

Are things much better for us now than it was for them? Yes. But we still have a long way to go. Sorry for the long rant, but his death has got me feeling some type of way. To all who support and genuinely appreciate us, thank you. #RIPBOBOKALA?”

I'm Ready To Debate Nana Addo On All His "Contentious" Statements - Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama is calling for a debate between himself and Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, he needs to set records straight on some “contentious” issues raised by the NPP leader in his bid to win the election come November 7.

He said this in an interview with Accra-based TV3 on the ‘NewDay’ programme when asked if he will again debate Nana Addo before this year’s schedule presidential polls.

“I am willing to debate Nana Akufo-Addo any day, even if you call him today we will put it here . . . I don’t have problem with debating Nana [Nana Addo],” President Mahama responded.

Adding that – “Indeed he [Nana Addo] has made a lot of contemptuous statements I would have wished that you had him here [On the show] so we debate on those issues.”

Nana Akufo Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia have on several occasions raised issues with the governance style of the president accusing him of running down the country’s economy and bringing unbearable hardships on the citizenry.

Nana Addo recently held what he termed was the real state of the nation address after the president had delivered his mandated State of the Nations address to the house of Parliament.

This, the president has denied and said his achievements are evident for all to see. President Mahama has indicated that he would be available for a debate during the campaign season depending on whether his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is willing to participate.

Ahead of this year’s election, it is likely the Institute of Economy Affairs [IEA] will hold a presidential debate for all aspirants including the president – this according President John Mahama will be a ‘fine’ opportunity to react to Nana Addo’s claims.

He prays his party [NDC] will accept such invitation from the IEA when served, but

"It is not for me to say, I am sure that the NDC party at the appropriate time if they are invited to debate will have to take a decision on whether they feel comfortable with whoever is organizing the debate," he added.

STATEMENT: EC, Charlotte Osei Given 7 Day Ultimatum!

'LET MY VOTE COUNT' DELIVERS ONE-WEEK ULTIMATUM TO CHARLOTTE OSEI & THE EC, FOLLOWING LATEST DEVELOPMENTS'

The Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) is outraged by the apparent determination of the Charlotte Osei-led Electoral Commission to impair our democratic system. The EC's reckless decisions are setting up the nation for chaos in the November 2016 general elections.

The EC’s posture and timetable make clear that it does not intend to carry out records validation for registered voters, despite being encouraged to do so by its own Panel of Experts, and even by the Supreme Court.

We wish, by this statement, to inform the public that LMVCA accepts the recommendation from the Panel Report that Validation is good enough, if done well, to clean up the register and give us a credible base document for the 2016 elections. The challenge now is that the EC appears determined to deny Ghanaians this important exercise recommended by its own panel of experts.

We are, by this statement, demanding from the EC a clear timetable for validation to clean up the register and this must be made known to the public within a week from today, failing which we will mobilise the youth of this country to stage a massive demonstration against the Commission.

In the 77-page report of the Panel of Experts, set up by the EC to provide guidance on the electoral register issue, Justice VCRAC  Crabbe and his team asserted that the voter register is bloated, and that Ghana cannot go into the 2016 general elections without addressing its widespread irregularities.

Shockingly, the Panel discovered that the number of names on the voter register is “dangerously” and unacceptably more than the total number of eligible voters in Ghana. The Panel implored the EC to validate registered voters, but the EC, incredulously, is refusing to do so.

In our current circumstances, a validation exercise becomes the only possible means to give the nation a clean register that will enable credible elections with an outcome that will be readily accepted by all.

Enough is enough.

Let it be reiterated, the Let My Vote Count Alliance is giving the EC a one-week ultimatum to tell the people of Ghana when and how it will conduct the validation exercise to deliver a credible register to the citizens. If the EC exceeds its one-week ultimatum, we will take action. And this time around, the demonstrations we stage will be bigger and stronger, and no amount of intimidation from the police or the anti-democracy thugs will deter us. We have both the outrage and the inflamed determination of the nation behind us.

All across Ghana, the people no longer have faith in the authorities to conduct an honest election.

Ms. Osei and the EC's ongoing refusal to clean the voter register is a refusal to conduct a free and fair election in Ghana.

It should also be noted that it would be a waste of money and time to conduct limited registration and then to do the validation afterward. The EC must conduct the validation in tandem with the limited registration they plan to carry out. It would be neither effective nor efficient to waste the Ghanaian people's money and time by conducting these exercises separately. This issue requires urgent attention and clarity from the EC.

The people of Ghana will not let Charlotte Osei and the EC rob us of an honest election. They must be held accountable.

Brochuregate...."Hypocrite NPP" Lacks Moral Right To Call For Probe - ADU ASARE

Hon Kojo Adu Asare, Former NDC MP Adenta

Presidential Staffer Kojo Adu Asare has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for making political meal out of Ghana’s 59th Independence Day brochure gaffe.

Mr Adu Asare agrees it was embarrassing to the country, but says NPP’s track record as far as national gaffes are concerned, comes nowhere near the brochure scandal. He argues the largest opposition party lacks the moral authority to keep fanning the issue to damage government’s reputation in order to score cheap political points.

His comments come in the wake of NPP’s call for an independent investigation into the printing of the over 3000 error-ridden brochures for Ghana’s 59th Independence celebration.

The NPP believes the findings can inform future actions to prevent a recurrence.

Ghana has been ridiculed for capturing Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta, who was the Guest of Honour at the parade, as the President of Ghana in the brochure among a litany of unpardonable errors.

The gaffe has been generally condemned and some critical politicians say it is a manifestation of government’s incompetence.

Acting Head of the Information Services Department has been sacked and the Communications Bureau at the Flagstaff House is now under direct control of the Communications Ministry.

But a livid Adu Asare who spoke on Accra based OkayFM's "Adea Akye Abia" morning show said the NPP lacks the moral authority to attempt to feed on the current incident since they are worse culprits.

Listen to who’s talking? Does the NPP think Ghanaians have forgotten about the litany of embarrassment they took this country through? They should give us a break!” he told show host Kwame Nkrumah "Tikese".

Wasn’t it under this same NPP that Ghana suffered the biggest embarrassment ever in its life when a simple voter ID card had its colours turned upside down? Instead of the colours of the national flag, horizontal stripes of Red, Yellow and Green, didn’t the NPP government print the Voters’ ID cards with horizontal stripes of Green, Yellow Red? So our cards were in the colours of Senegal? What was the NPP’s response to such a serious embarrassment? Did they call for a probe into that scandal?

"Isn’t it under the same NPP regime that its first Finance Minister signed a loan agreement in the German language, which he could neither read nor write? Isn’t it under this same NPP that the same Finance Minister brought a CNTCI loan to Parliament for consideration where it was later found out that the address of the company was actually a hair dressing saloon in London?

"Wasn’t it under the same NPP regime that saw an Attorney General filing a case in court and titled it the President versus Tsatsu Tsikata, instead of the Republic versus Tsatsu Tsikata?

"They should tell Ghanaians which of these issues compare with the unfortunate mistakes in the brochure. NPP should please leave Ghanaians alone," he fumed.

The former NDC MP for Adenta advised the largest opposition party to focus on selling a message to Ghanaian electorate if they are really interested to win power and not resort to picking on issues they lack the morale authority to talk about.

Firing ISD Boss For His "Idiocy” Is "Good News" – Kofi Adams

NDC National Organiser Kofi Adams is beside himself with joy.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart had his wish came to pass when government released a statement to officially fire Mr Francis Kwarteng Arthur from his post.

He has lauded government for the swift action taken in sanctioning the ISD Acting Director for his role in the unpardonable blunder which made the country and Mahama-led government a laughing stock in the eyes of the world.

“...It’s a good news. People must begin to pay for their idiocy. One person cannot let the whole system suffer. If you can’t work as a government appointee, leave, there’re more people ready to do the job,” he said, hours after the news went viral.

The embattled acting ISD Director was fired on Wednesday night in a statement signed by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, for his role in what has now become known as the 59th Independence Day Anniversary Brochuregate.

The statement partly read – “Mr Francis Kwarteng Arthur has been relieved of his duties as acting Director of the Information Services Department.

Mr Kwarteng has been in the spotlight for taking responsibility for errors in this year’s Independence Day anniversary brochure that was riddled with many grammatical errors and factual inaccuracies.

The errors in the 30-page document have caused many critics – both home and abroad – to criticise the government on many media platforms, especially on social media.

Among the many mistakes in the brochure was the representation of Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, as the President of Ghana.

Expressions such as, "The innovated partnership is being concretised in many areas of economic trajectory, particularly trade...", "...rainbow at the end of the tunnel...", "...as if by divine-designed..." and "Ghana has attained a low-income status in the world...", have also been described as ambiguous or false by some observers.

The statement also directed that the Ministry of Communications, headed by Dr Omane Boamah, take over responsibility of the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau.

It comes after presidential staffer, Stan Dogbe, was fingered as having a hand in the embarrassing faux pas.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed Ghana Montie, Mr Adams maintained that “high level government appointees must all pay for their mistakes including civil service and public service personnel. Their laziness affects productivity.

I am not ready to defend the indefensible things like the independence day blunder,” he added.

Madam Gifty Twum Ampofo Has Won N.P.P Parliamentary Primary In Abuakwa North.

An educationist Madam Gifty Twum Ampofo has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region.

Supreme Court Cautions Woyome...

The Supreme Court on Tuesday cautioned embattled businessman, Mr Alfred A. Woyome, to take the court serious after it dismissed his latest application seeking a stay of execution to allow him to pay the GHȻ51.2 million while he heads to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

He was also praying the court to allow him to pay the money by instalment, starting with GHȻ8 million at the end of April 2016 with the rest spread within 36 months and paid quarterly.

The court, however, took exception to the fact that while Mr Ken Anku, counsel for Mr Woyome, had told the media that he was heading to the ICC for arbitration, at the same time, he was in the court seeking to tie the hands of the Attorney-General (A-G) to prevent it from attaching his properties because his client wanted to renegotiate the terms of payment.
