SOME MISTAKES HAVE DIRE CONSEQUENCES

Gen 49:3-4 "Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.

Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father's bed; then you defiled it--he went up to my couch.

Characters in the bible and stories which surround their lives provide us with great lessons by which we can live and shape our lives.

One such character is Reuben. Reuben, the first born of Israel was ordained by destiny to be a man with a four-point prophetic mandate:
* Custodian of the Family Might
* Doorway to Strength
* Excellency of Dignity
* Excellency of Power

In fact, Reuben was to be the carrier of the birthright, priesthood glory and honour and rulership.

Unlike the Patriachs whom God by divine sovereignty had rearranged their destinies, Reuben by birthorder was just to walk into his portion and lot.

However, one single, costly mistake blocked and denied him access into his destined position and rather received a curse....unstable as water, you will not excel.

Reuben coveted what belonged to his father and went into his step mum (Bilhal). Jacob seemed not to have reacted immediately but he had other plans - a transgenerational curse.

Reuben so derailed that by the time they left Egypt and got to the promised land, the tribe which hitherto was the largest had become the smallest.

Beloved, we do make mistakes but if care is not taken, one careless move can lead to a very devastating consequence.

Reuben's inability to control such inaudinate passion became the reason for the suffering of many innocent masses.

So many times my prayer is Lord, save us from falling into shameful traps which come with dire consequences.

However if our actions now, in the past and the future has opened us to devastating effect then may your plenteous mercy locate us as we repented wail for mercy and grace.

May the Lord God Almighty have mercy.

SONG
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
