Government has released a statement to confirm tv3network.com's story about an armed man who was arrested at President Mahama's church with a fully loaded pistol.
According to the statement, the man aged 36 is under investigation by the National Security Secretariat.
Below is the original story
An armed man has been arrested at President Mahama’s church, Ringway Gospel Assemblies of God on Sunday after he was spotted holding a pistol loaded with bullets during service.
The man whose identity is not yet known was sighted by church members during Sunday morning's main service with the pistol.
A church member who confirmed the story to tv3network.com said ‘the man acted strangely and was too jittery during the morning sermon’.
It is unclear why the man believed to be in his early 30’s had gone to the Ringway Assemblies of God church where the president and his wife fellowship with the gun. Unconfirmed reports say the gun is unregistered.
He was caught by a lady church member whilst reaching his pocket for the pistol.
Church members around confirmed the man wasn't a member of the church and nobody could identify him.
Church officials have since handed him over to the police criminal investigations department for further investigations.
The Director General of the public affairs department of the Ghana police service, DCOP Rev. David Ampah Benin who is also a church elder of that congregation was spotted at the scene with some police officers to ensure adequate security.
Although President Mahama was not in church at the time of the incident, his official driver had brought his children to church that morning.
Other key public figures including Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood , other senior police officers including DCOP Rev. Ampah Benin all worship at the Ringway Gospel Assemblies of God Church.
